Historical Sketch
Jacob Leichty was born August 30, 1819, and died March
1, 1896. He was married to Catherine Leichty, who died
1879. Their three oldest sons were Daniel, John and
Christian Leichty. He is buried in the Sugar Creek
Graveyard, Noble, Iowa.
Jacob Leichty emigrated to America in his youth, first
going to Canada, then to Wayne County, Ohio, and soon after
to Washington County, Iowa. He was the first settler of the
Mennonite denomination in Washington County, Iowa. Source:
