The Other Hertzler-Hartzlers, 1995
This book was produced by Emanuel C. Hertzler, Goshen,
Indiana, and printed by Olde Springfield Shoppe,
Elverson, Pennsylvania, in 1995. It is 590 pages in
length.
This book traces the descendants of Johannes Hertzler
(circa 1710 - after 1755), who was born in Switzerland,
maybe in the village of Hirzel. Johannes emigrated to
the Palatinate and lived in the village of Eppstein,
and then emigrated to America, arriving November 3,
1750 at Philadelphia on the ship Brotherhood. With him
was his father, Hans Hertzel (ca. 1690-after 1750), his
wife, and three sons. He settled in western Lancaster
County, somewhere in Hempfield Township, in
Pennsylvania, maybe near Millersville.
Johannes Hertzler was related to Bishop Jacob Hertzler
(1703-1786), but was no brother. Since two
genealogical books have been produced on the
descendants of Jacob Hertzler, Hertzler Genealogy by
John Hertzler (1885), and The Hertzler-Hartzler Family
History by Silas Hertzler (1952), this third book was
entitled The Other Hertzler-Hartzlers.
Information on persons in this book include birth,
marriage, spouse, parents, occupation, involvements in
church and community, addresses of home, children and
death.
Persons who helped compile and produce the book
included Paul W. Hertzler (1924-1994), Elam K. Hertzler
(1926- ), Harold M. Kilheffer (1930- ) and Leon E.
Hertzler (1949- ).
The book also includes the Hertzler descendants of
Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, which was complied by
Samuel Hertzler Mumma (1893-1970) in the 1960's and
updated by Leon E. Hertzler (1949-).
The book also includes three articles on the European
Hertzlers: "European History of the Hertzler Family,"
by J. Virgil Miller; "The Hertzlers of Eppstein in the
Palatinate," by Emanuel C. Hertzler; and ""My
Trip to
See Our Family's Past - To Eppstein in the Palatinate,"
by Paul W. Hertzler.
