Introduction

These papers were deposited into the Archives by Sue
Bontrager, Middlebury, Indiana, in 1997. The 1744
Froschauer Bible, which was a part of this collection, is
found at the Mennonite Historical Library, Goshen College.
The Bible also contains some family records of the Esch and
Hage families.

Papers, 1819-1891, 1975-1977
Friedrich Hage (1794-1863) was a Amish Mennonite
minister in Germany, who emigrated with his wife, two
children, and a hired hand, to the United States of
America in 1825-26. Later he served as an Amish bishop
in Holmes County, Ohio.

Many of these documents have been transcribed. A brief
overview and context of these papers is also found in
this collection, as provided by Joe Springer, Curator,
Mennonite Historical Library.
