75 years ago, J. C. Wenger was baptized
by Bishop Abraham Clemmer at the Rockhill Meetinghouse, near
Souderton, Pennsylvania.
Of this experience, he wrote, " . . . I was bitterly disappointed.
I lacked a saved feeling. I had heard preachers tell time and
again of the joy that converts felt after they became Christians.
I did not feel anything! This lack of assurance bothered me until
I . . . got my eyes on Jesus intead of myself."
After this "disappointing" beginning, J.C. went on
to serve the church as a minister, teacher, scholar, writer,
historian and storyteller. He was one of the most prolific writers
of the century.
Read more of Wenger's reflections on his own life and ministry
in J.C., A life Sketch. Copies of this limited edition,
published in 1993 as a tribute to him, are still available for
a contribution of $100.
