Stories of Thyme and Place

Banquet and Storytelling by John L. Ruth

A series of four fund-raisers, called Stories of Thyme and Place, were planned this Spring and Fall. Each event featured a banquet and storyteller John L. Ruth. Ruth is a well-known writer, film maker, historian, pastor and storyteller. His tales of historic Mennonite characters of various ethnic origins were engaging, instructive and humorous. The events were held in Lansdale, Pa. on May 4, Goshen, Indiana on September 12, Kalona, Iowa on September 14 and Mount Joy, Pa., November 7.

In addition to the good publicity, the networking with local historical groups, the first three events netted about $6,000 for the Historical Committee. Additional proceeds were shared with local historical groups who helped with the planning. Six similar fund-raisers are being planned for next year.
